About

Welcome and thanks for visiting ModernGuitarMethodBook.com. I would like to start by explaining who my audience is. Modern Guitar Method is for guitarists who need to learn the language of music. Many guitarists are behind in this area because of the belief that theory is for classical musicians and has no place in modern music. There is also a notion that music theory will stifle creativity. These statements are simply not true. On the former, if you understand theory you will understand harmony and scales which can lead to better playing and writing. On the latter, to understand how to create something new, one must first understand what has been done. You can think of music theory as music history. Through the study of music theory you will learn to use all of the devices of music to re-create what has been done, or make an effort to create something new by not recycling old ideas. Modern Guitar Method is a fundamental music theory book for guitarists. It’s different from traditional theory books it that all of the examples are made for guitarists using chord diagrams and lead sheet diagrams. Many of the examples are written on the staff to encourage you to think about pitch without visualizing a guitar. This will help the concepts, which are abstract, to develop a stable foundation.
